Monday 28th April


Welcome to our blog. The year Four had a fantastic time last week at Kingswood and the children were a credit to you and the school. I am sure the children were very tired and had lots of stories to tell.

Remember that swimming starts again this week on Tuesday. All helpers welcome to attend at 12.40 and 1.40.

Mrs Harding/Mrs Morgan
This week the group are learning more about data handling. We are learning about Venn diagrams, Carroll diagrams and bar charts. The children will be reading and answering questions about the different forms of data handling.

Maths Mrs Sarsfield
This week the children will be learning more about addition and subtraction. The children will be problem solving using addition and subtraction. They will be using the rucsac method.

Tuesday 22nd April 2014

Welcome to the summer term.

Please remember that we have an Inset day on Tuesday 22nd April. The Year 4 must be getting really excited about Kingswood. We leave around twelve o clock on Wednesday and hope to be back around 3 o clock but delays and traffic made it a lot later last year. We will communicate with school about an expected time of arrival.


CLOTHING FOR KINGSWOOD

ALL  activities require long sleeves and trousers.

­  Pyjamas/Nightdress, Dressing Gown
­  Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Soap (in box) – NO SPRAYS
­  Towels – 1 large/1 small
­  Hairbrush/Comb
­  Trousers, Tracksuits, Shirts/Blouses, Jumpers – Long Sleeves
       (Quick Drying Clothes - Two complete changes)
­  Underwear and Socks – (Two changes)
­  Pair of Pumps, Slippers, Shoes, Training Shoes - preferably
     with gripping soles for walking and wellies

­  Anorak/Coat with Hood or Hat/Gloves
­  Outfit for Disco
­  Clear Plastic Bag for dirty clothing

­  Clothes for Night-time Campfire – Warm Coat

RE
In RE this week the children will be starting a new topic New life – serving. The children will be listening to a story related to new life and will be thinking about a time when they have been sad and miserable and then things change and their feelings change into happiness and excitement
ENGLISH
This week the year three will be doing lots of activities related to improving their writing.
The children will learn what a BOYS sentence is. That is using the connectives
BUT, OR, YET AND SO.
It was a warm day, yet storm clouds gathered over the distant mountains.
The children will also be learning how to write list sentences such as
I was a dark, long, leafy lane.
She had a cold, cruel cackle.

MATHS
In maths the year three will be learning all about symmetry.

Monday 7th April

Welcome to our blog.   Remember that the children have on line my maths homework.

The project homework is due in this week and the teachers are really getting excited about seeing the wonderful homework.

This is a busy week:

Easter garden competition on Wednesday with three prizes for each class.
Easter service on Friday 9.19am. You are welcome to attend but space as always is a premium.


There will be no swimming this week as most schools are off.

Please remember that the Year 4 children are off to Kingswood the first day back after Easter.

RE
We will be continuing our new topic called SELF DISCIPLINE.
We will be learning about the Easter story and the celebration of Easter in the church.

ENGLISH
This week we will be learning all about Tenses and also colons.
The children will be learning about the past , future and present tense.

Monday 17th March

Welcome to our blog.  Happy St Patrick’s day! The children will be learning about St Patrick. Remember that the children have on line my maths homework and also their project homework on water. Please see details of the homework below on previous blogs.

Please remember that swimming is on for the next seven weeks on Tuesday afternoon.
The Year 4 will arrive back at about 3.30pm. Please remember all uniform needs to be named. No jewellery is permitted so earrings MUST be removed during swimming. Thank you for your help on this matter.

Please make sure that PE kits are back in school and kept there. A few children did not have their kits last week still.

On Friday there will be a Lenten Mass celebrated at school at 9.05am. People are welcome to attend but be aware that space is a premium in the hall.

This week we will be having a review and assessment week and the children will be completing tests in writing, reading and Maths.

Monday 10th March

Welcome to our blog.  Homework starts this week. All groups have My Maths and need to complete it. The new topic homework has been sent out last week and can be seen below. The new topic for the homework will have the theme of water.

We will be starting a  new topic called SELF DISCIPLINE.
We will be thinking about how different people excel in their life i their jobs and sporting expertise. What makes people successful? We will also be thinking about what skills we have and what we are good at.

ENGLISH
In English this week we will be practising using INVERTED COMMAS. We will be practsisng inserting them in a story and also learning how to insert speech when writing stories. We will be finishing writing a story and inserting speech and description. We will be reviewing the rules of speech too.

Punctuation goes inside the inverted commas.
Inverted commas only goes around the direct speech.

Water Project homework  
Welcome back and I hope the children are getting excited about what their new topic will be about.
This half term’s topic is WATER ON TAP.
The topic is about the water and could include anything to do with water such as rivers, seas, food, drinks, floods, adverse weather conditions, weather forecasts etc.

Examples of work:  A long story with chapters (chapters, pictures linked to the topic of water such as a flood, lost at sea etc.) power points, large posters, models, map work, written reports, weather forecast , songs, videos, news  etc.
Your child will be expected to give a short presentation/reading their story to the rest of the class to show their finished product, during the last week:
7th to 11th April.
