Monday 25th February

Welcome to this week’s blog. We hope that you had a great holiday and are coming back refreshed. We will be starting homework again next week. Please remember that swimming starts on Tuesday afternoon. Year 3 will be a little late back. The children may bring goggles if they wish to use them.

READING
In Mrs Harding’s class 35% of children were heard read three times during the last week.
In Mrs Sarsfield’s 48% of children were heard read three times.
In Mrs Morgan’s  class 30% of children were heard read three times a week.

MATHS
Mrs Morgan/ Mrs Harding.
In these groups we will be continuing FRACTIONS. We will be learning about equivalent fractions more. We will be starting a new topic on NEGATIVE NUMBERS too this week.

This week we are focusing on doubling and halving techniques, learning to double and halve with quick recall by partitioning first. We will move from 2 digit numbers to 3 and 4 digit numbers which are multiples of 10. We will be learning to ignore the 0 at the end, then add it back on to arrive at the final answer. We will also be reviewing decimals and time.

LITERACY
We will be learning all about PRONOUNS. The children will be learning how to replace the nouns with pronouns.

RE
We are continuing with our topic – listening and sharing. This week we will be thinking about the importance of listening. What did you miss when you weren’t listening? What is it like not to be listened to? We will also be looking at the liturgy of the word and looking at Gospel stories.

Monday 11th February

        
Welcome to this week’s blog. Please remember that this week we have our Parent’s evenings.
Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. The extended session is on Wednesday. The books will be left out in the area or in the classrooms beforehand. Please feel free to go and have a look before you meet your child’s teacher.

On Monday we are all excited about our trip to Fiddlers Ferry. The Year 3 will be going in the morning and Year 4 will be going in the afternoon. Normal lunch arrangements as both year groups will eat at school. Uniform and a snack required to take please.

In these groups we will be continuing FRACTIONS. We will be learning about ordering fractions and also equivalent fractions. We will also be reviewing fractions that equal one whole and finding fractions of numbers. We will be completing assessment tests this week too.

This week we will be focusing on 2D shape - learning about reflective symmetry, perimeter of shapes and naming the types of triangles.

We will be : completing a reading comprehension assessment, writing an information booklet about electricity, writing a recount of our trip to the power station and continuing to learn about the use of commas when including extra detail in longer sentences.

Monday 4th February

Wow! February so soon. What a busy week! Thank you to all the children and parents who read three times last week.
In 3 / 4 H 36 % of children had been heard read three times last week.
37% in 3 / 4 MJ.
37 % in 3 / 4 S.

Let’s see if we can get it double this next week when we get into the routine of it.

MATHS
Mrs Sarsfield’s Group
We will be carrying on with DECIMALS, relating decimals to decimal fractions and ordering decimals to 2 decimal places. Also we will be creating number sequences by adding and subtracting 10, 100 or 1000 onto 4 and 5 digit numbers.

We will be starting a new topic on FRACTIONS. We will know the meaning of different vocabulary related to fractions such as denominator (bottom digit) and numerator (top digit.)
We will also be working out how to recognise fractions of shapes. We will be finding out how to find 1 / 4 by halving then halving again.

JOURNEYS
We will be learning about the feast days of Our Lady. We will also be learning about the Jewish feast days. We will also be thinking how we can help people on their journey and putting these ideas in a footprint.

LITERACY
 We will be exploring the use of commas within sentences to mark clauses. We will be reviewing the use of inverted commas around direct speech. Writing a short story to put both pieces of punctuation into practice and we will also be completing a reading comprehension.
